Why are millennials and Gen Z leading ‘The Great Resignation’?

At Customer Faithful, we don’t buy into ‘The Great Resignation’ as being solely about a wave of people leaving employment for greener fields elsewhere. In our experience, it’s also about resetting their work-life boundaries without necessarily jumping ship. But nevertheless, it does seem to be younger people that are leading the charge.. A Sept 2021 survey by Employment Hero (download it in full here) found that people age 25-34 are the most fed up, with a staggering 77% looking to change roles within the next year. Close behind is Gen Z – finding that 74% of 18-24 year olds are hoping to be in new work within 12 months.

So what’s going on with these young workers? The link below is to a useful, well-referenced article from a perhaps surprising source - the free commuter newspaper, Metro. Lots of stats and some case studies which bring to life some common themes we’ve found from our own research. Well worth a read.
